CREATIVE DISCIPLINES:

Teaching youth the arts of Hip Hop Dance, DJ'ing & Turntablism, Rhyme/Emceeing/Poetry, Drawing/Painting/Mural Art, and Hip Hop History as well as other disciplines.

We focus on sharing a creative alternative vision to some of the negative things that exist out here in the real world for kids. At a time when our youth are too often demonized by media, profiled by the law, disregarded by politicians, under supported by their own communities and disregarded by most adults in general, we find ways to respect youth voices, ideas, art and culture!

We celebrate our youth through DIRECT involvement in their supplementary education!

We believe in EDUCATION not INCARCERATION!!! JOBS not JAILS!

Encouraging education, mutual respect, community involvement, teamwork, individual self worth, artistic vision, hard work as well as an active and healthy lifestyle.

ABOUT US:
The HIP HOP ACADEMY of KANSAS CITY was founded just over 3 years ago by Aaron Sutton, Roscoe Johnson III, and Jeremy McConnell and we have been striving to bring the positive elements of Hip Hop Art & Creative Urban Culture to youth of all ages.

Working in collaboration with Chameleon Arts as part of the Chameleon Arts Consortium, we have been able to work with children in KC Metro area Libraries in the North East, Southeast, Midtown, Downtown and Westside neighborhoods.

We have also collaborated with great community organizations like OPERATION BREAKTHROUGH at ST. Vincents at 31st and Troost, SACRED HEART GUADALUPE youth group, Phoenix Family Housing Inc., The TROOST FESTIVAL folks and Creative Mind Community Art Center (where we first began).

The HIP HOP ACADEMY has also created a 3 week Summer Camp which will work with middle school kids and is a more in depth study of these disciplines. This will be our second Summer of the KCMO School Districts QUEST PLUS Program.
